On September 19, KLASSIK underground meets the Leipzig Ballet at the Moritzbastei for a special KLASSIK underground concert that brings together music, dance and painting. In this innovative co-production by KLASSIK underground and the Leipzig Ballet entitled "Matisse x Ravel", the artistic points of connection between these two great French artists will be revealed under the moonlight on the summer terrace of the Moritzbastei.

The names Matisse and Ravel immediately evoke an intensity of color and sensuality that was unprecedented in their respective art forms. Music - and dance in particular - was a great passion of Matisse's and alongside numerous depictions of musical themes, he used terms such as "rhythm", "vibrato", "chord" and "timbre" when describing his own artworks. As the sun sets on the summer terrace of the Moritzbastei, musicians from the Gewandhaus Orchestra will perform Ravel's String Quartet in F major and his "Tombeau de Couperin" in an arrangement for wind quintet.

Dancers from the Leipzig Ballet will be inspired by Matisse's revolutionary "Papiers découpés" in order to make the synergy in the artistic languages of Matisse and Ravel directly tangible.

++In case of rainy weather, this event will take place at the same time on the same day in the Event Barrel of the Moritzbastei++
