ABOUT
The ground-breaking concert series “KLASSIK underground” defies expectations, unsettles scores and bends the rules of classical performance.
Fusing tradition with modernity, KLASSIK underground is internationally renowned for melding classical music with video installation, street art, laser artistry, theatre and dance and for unforgettable concert experiences featuring the world’s leading classical artists. KLASSIK underground has been profiled in international media from New York’s Travel and Leisure Magazine to the Japan Times, Financial Review and El País.
Classical music stars including Thomas Adès, Leif Ove Andsnes, Joshua Bell, Gautier Capuçon, Kirill Gerstein, Alan Gilbert, Leonidas Kavakos, Pekka Kuusisto, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Andris Nelsons, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Jörg Widmann have appeared at KLASSIK underground. Musicians from the world’s premiere orchestras including the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic have also performed KLASSIK underground shows.
Emerging recently from the underground Moritzbastei Club next door to the Gewandhaus concert hall in Leipzig - the German city that is the historical home of “Klassik” or classical music - KLASSIK underground continues to blur the lines between classical sounds, visual art and alternative spaces in Australia, Japan, the UK and the US.
